US Route 40, a Principal Arterial connecting Highland to Troy and Interstate 70, underwent a 6.9-mile resurfacing project from IL Route 4 to just beyond IL Route 143 in Highland. Additional improvements included guardrail replacement, extension of a 7’x12’ concrete box culvert, ADA sidewalk ramp upgrades, and traffic signal enhancements with new Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) equipment.

HMG Engineers conducted a guardrail inventory study, performed a crash analysis, designed the box culvert extension and signal upgrades, and prepared Phase II construction plans. Construction was completed in 2022.
