About
The project replaced the existing bridge on Tick Ridge Road over Post Creek Cutoff with a 274-foot-long, 30-foot-10-inch-wide prestressed concrete structure supported by integral abutments and drilled shaft piers. The design addressed site challenges including approximately 50-foot-tall piers and shallow, variable-depth bedrock while meeting AASHTO LRFD standards and seismic requirements.

This project is located on Tick Ridge Road (FAS 937) at its crossing of Post Creek Cutoff approximately 0.5 miles north of the Ohio River and 14 miles west of Metropolis.
The new structure consists of precast prestressed concrete continuous I-beams with composite concrete deck superstructure, supported by integral concrete abutments founded on steel H-piles and multi-column transfer beam drilled shaft piers.
Challenges of the site included tall piers of approximately 50 feet and a shallow bedrock profile of varying acute depth. The new structure is 274’-0” back-to-back of abutments and 30’-10” out-to-out of deck with a zero skew.
The structure was designed in accordance with the AASHO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and is in Seismic Performance Zone 4 with Soil Site Class C.
