The North Marion Street project in Jackson County, Illinois, combines safety improvements with roadway maintenance. Extending from East Fisher Street to Dillinger Road in Carbondale, the project was funded through Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) and county Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds in response to a high rate of fixed-object and overturning crashes. Planned improvements include 3-foot HMA shoulders with rumble strips and new advanced warning signage at curves.
In addition to safety upgrades, the project includes HMA surface and binder overlays and pavement reconstruction in select sections. HMG Engineers provided topographic surveys, environmental coordination, Phase I design and PDR preparation, and Phase II construction plans. The project is scheduled for construction in 2024.
