Selected on Bulletin 202 Item 35, HMG Engineers served as the prime consultant for reconstructing two structures on Interstate 70. The project included Phase I and Phase II design for replacing Structures 012-0006 and 012-0007, which carry Interstate 70 over East Little Creek in Clark County. The scope involved removing and replacing the superstructures and approach slabs for both bridges. Existing semi-integral abutments were rebuilt to incorporate semi-integral drains behind them, and portions of the existing wingwalls were reconstructed. Concrete slope walls and revetment mats were removed and replaced with stone riprap. Traffic was managed using crossovers at each end of the project to shift traffic during construction.
HMG compiled the Phase I project report, including ESR documents, traffic management plan, bridge condition reports, hydraulic analysis, and Phase I plans. During Phase II, HMG produced construction documents combining their designs and subconsultants’ work. They also designed construction crossovers, traffic staging plans, roadway plan sheets, and cross sections. Quigg Engineers, Inc. contributed to Phase I and Phase II structural design, while Bacon Farmer Workman, Engineering & Testing conducted an independent QA review of the full plan set.
