Interstates 70 and 270 in Madison County are primary freeway routes connecting the Illinois Metro East to the St. Louis area, converging with I-55 near Troy, Illinois. HMG Engineers, in coordination with IDOT District 8 Studies & Plans, performed Phase II engineering for widening and resurfacing along I-70, I-270, and the Triple-I Interchange ramps. The project extended from 0.62 miles south of the interchange along I-70 to the I-55/70 ramps and continued approximately 2.1 miles east of the interchange, including resurfacing ramps G-1, G-3, G-4, G-5, G-6, and G-7.

Construction improvements included lane widening, resurfacing, new HMA shoulders, and pavement patching. Structural work involved new culverts, crossover relocation, and drainage and bridge repairs. Secondary improvements included signage, guardrails, impact attenuators, drainage structures, and pavement marking. HMG served as the prime consultant, leading the Phase II design and preparing construction documents. The project was let in September 2020.
