Interstate 57 is a critical corridor in Illinois. In partnership with IDOT District 8 Studies & Plans, HMG Engineers designed a 3.7-mile reconstruction project extending from the Jefferson/Marion County line north to 0.7 miles north of IL Route 161. The project required full pavement removal and replacement with 11 ¾” continuously reinforced concrete pavement over a stabilized HMA subbase and aggregate subbases. The interchange ramps at IL Route 161 were also reconstructed.
Additional improvements included extending box culverts and headwalls, relocating interstate signage beyond clear zones, and installing new guardrails. HMG served as prime consultant, leading the design team and managing subconsultants throughout the development of construction plans. The project incorporated 3-D CADD modeling with electronic deliverables for contractors. Staged construction began in 2022 and is now substantially complete.
