Heritage

Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc. (dba HMG Engineers, Inc.) was established in Carlyle, Illinois in 1966 by Dale Henry, Harold Meisenheimer, and Robert Gende. Their objective was to provide multi-disciplined engineering expertise for a variety of municipal state, federal and private clients. They partnered with Joe Rezek to start RHMG Engineers, Inc. in Libertyville, Illinois in 1970 and the companies remain affiliated.

Leadership

HMG principals are involved in day-to-day leadership, project quality control and hands-on project management. They are:

Bradley G. Hummert, P.E., S.E.

President/CEO, Director of Structural Engineering

Mr. Hummert is President of Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc. and managing agent for structural engineering. He leads structural evaluation projects related to transportation and infrastructure, highway and pedestrian bridge projects. His bridge design experience includes preparation of bridge condition reports, cost estimates of design alternatives, type, size, and location plans, final contract plans and specifications, and the review of fabrication shop drawings. His infrastructure design experience includes water and wastewater treatment plant structures, and power plant structures.

He has over 30 years of experience in consulting engineering with an emphasis on Illinois Department of Transportation, County and municipal clients. Mr. Hummert has a BS in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, Iowa & Missouri, and is a licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL

Brian R. Buchheit, P.E., BCEE

COO, Director of Operations & Administration

Mr. Buchheit is corporate Secretary-Treasurer and managing agent for professional engineering for Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc. He also acts as General Manager of HMG’s wholly-owned subsidiaries, and as a Director at HMG’s affiliates.

In addition, Mr. Buchheit provides quality control and leads special water supply and wastewater projects. His water supply experience includes facilities planning, hydraulic modeling, water quality modeling, process design, pump station design, storage tank design & distribution system design. His wastewater experience includes facilities planning, process modeling & design, sludge management, loading evaluations, infiltration/inflow analyses, industrial pre-treatment, lift station design, & collection system design.

He has over 24 years of experience in water & wastewater engineering, both as a consultant to municipalities and industries, and as an engineer for large investor-owned water utility. Mr. Buchheit has a BS in General Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MS in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, & Missouri, and has obtained specialty certification as a Board Certified Environmental Engineer in water supply and wastewater engineering by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL.

Scott A. Rakers, P.E.

Executive Vice President, Director of Transportation Engineering

Mr. Rakers is an officer in the firm and leads all transportation projects. His design experience includes highway design process, including project reports, drainage, pavement, intersection, interchange, traffic signals, retaining walls, storm sewer, stage construction, bridge approaches, safety measures, traffic control, lighting, erosion control, right-of-way/easements, culverts and detours. Design experience also includes surveying, site development, parking lot, subdivision, levee, detention & retention ponds, utility coordination/relocation, recreational facilities (walking/biking paths; baseball, softball and soccer fields; tennis courts; etc.), railroads and airports.

He has over 30 years of experience in consulting engineering with an emphasis on Illinois Department of Transportation, County and municipal clients. Mr. Rakers has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL.

Douglas J. Ratermann, P.E., P.L.S.

Vice President, Director of Civil Engineering & Surveying

Mr. Ratermann is an officer in the firm and responsible for small municipal & developer-led civil engineering projects, and all surveying operations conducted by HMG. His engineering experience includes pavement design, culvert and storm sewer design, local roads design and numerous industrial and commercial site design projects. Mr. Ratermann’s surveying experience includes initial alignment surveys, engineering design surveys, construction staking, right of way calculations and platting. He also oversees GIS operations and works with FEMA on LOMAs and LOMRs.

He has over 25 years of experience in consulting engineering and surveying. Mr. Ratermann has a BS in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is a licensed Professional Engineer and licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL.

John A. Wieter, P.E.

Vice President, Director of Water Supply & Wastewater Engineering

Mr. Wieter is an officer in the firm and leads environmental projects related to water supply and wastewater. His water supply experience includes facilities planning, hydraulic modeling, treatment plant design, pump station design, storage tank design & distribution system design. His wastewater experience includes treatment plant design, sludge management, infiltration/inflow analyses, lift station design, & collection system design.

He has over 15 years of experience in water & wastewater engineering, both as a consultant and as an engineer for the St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District. Mr. Wieter has a BS in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and Missouri. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL.

Brett I. Benhoff, P.E.

Assistant Vice President, Structural Engineering

Mr. Benhoff serves on the Board of Directors and assists with the management of structural projects and staff. His experience includes preparation of bridge condition reports, cost estimates of design alternatives, type, size, and location plans, final contract plans and specifications, and the review of fabrication shop drawings. Mr. Benhoff also has extensive experience in the design of water and wastewater treatment plant structures.

He has over 11 years of experience in consulting engineering. Mr. Benhoff has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois. He is based at the Corporate Office in Breese, IL.

Jesse S. Maynard, P.E.

Assistant Vice President, Water Supply & Wastewater Engineering

Mr. Maynard serves on the Board of Directors and assists with the management of water supply and wastewater projects and staff. His water supply experience includes facilities planning, hydraulic modeling, treatment plant design, pump station design, storage tank design & distribution system design. His wastewater experience includes treatment plant design, sludge management, infiltration/inflow analyses, lift station design, & collection system design.

He has over 13 years of experience in consulting engineering. Mr. Maynard has a BS in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and Missouri. He is based at the Murphysboro, IL Office.

Kent J. Schwierjohn, P.E.
